At Abundant Life
Academy, we do not cater to our students; rather, we coach
through adversity. We teach, train, encourage, compel, and
reward hard work. Our 9—12 month program is divided
into 3 Trimesters. During this time we challenge students
and their parents to develop in the following three areas:
Christ-centered Leadership – Emotional Intelligence
and Choice Theory
“ K n o w Y o u r s e l f ” – Successful
leaders know themselves, and know others. They work well within
their gifting’s, and learn to help others to achieve
greatness as well. Our students learn to identify who they
are, and why they make the decisions they make. Our student
athletes learn to know their temperaments, gifting’s,
weaknesses, and behaviors. Understand blaming, justification,
thinking errors, and identify negative thinking patterns.
It is also impetrative that the student athlete be able to
identify others’ behavioral patterns (strengths, gifting’s,
and weaknesses). Great leaders learn to lead by following
other powerful leaders (coaches), and to help others to achieve
ultimate personal success (teammates).
We also teach the student athlete that they have what it takes
to be successful, and encourage them to take positive risks
(live a life of adventure). Most athletically gifted kids
have a desire and drive to be competitive (a Battle to Fight),
but often use this gifting to their own detriment. We teach
the student athlete that it is okay to seek out battles to
fight, but to make sure the battles are for the right cause,
and each victory should bring valor and honor to all parties.
Most importantly, a successful student athlete learns
who they are in Christ.
“ C h o o s e Y o u r s e l f ” – Successful
leaders choose themselves (how they think, act, and behave).
They identify who they want to be and choose to live with
a new perspective, awareness, language, and positive patterns.
Become aligned with truth and integrity and get yourself “out
of the box” by treating others with love, empathy, and
compassion.
Most Abundant Life Academy student athletes have chosen to
hang around the wrong crowd, attempting to find acceptance
and significance from the wrong sources. Unfortunately, the
typical ALA student athletes surround themselves with negative
peer influence, and these peers become their only counsel.
Essentially, these kids are choosing to be failures simply
by following the lead of others who fail. We teach our students
that we become whom we choose to hang around. We can really
benefit others and ourselves by choosing to hang around people
who are successful. The people we follow will eventually lead
us to achieving what they have achieved. If those we follow
have achieved failure, we will achieve their same fate. Conversely,
if we follow those who have tasted success, we will be enjoying
their same richness.
“ G i v e Y o u r s e l f ” – Nothing good
comes from being self-centered. Most of our student athletes
enter ALA self-absorbed, self-focused, and self-hearted…
and they are miserable. What ever we have, including athletic
talent, when given away will make us rich (not necessarily
materialistically rich). Success all starts with an investment,
but never thoroughly enjoyed until it is given away. We teach
our student leaders to give everything of themselves to others.
To serve others, to trust the team, and to see that everyone
wins. Our job as athletes is to serve the team and honor the
coaches, and to achieve the vision quest of the team.
At Abundant Life Academy we help the student athlete to begin
to forge a new life path, to change the heart forever, by
serving the needs of others above ourselves.
Program Overview
During the students enrollment, both the parent and the student
will learn Personality Insight’s Human Behavior Temperament
System (DISC), 6 Second’s Emotional Intelligence, Seven
Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Ransom Ministries “Wild
at Heart”, John Maxwell’s 21 Laws of Leadership,
and the Arbinger Institute’s “Choice Theory”
program. In addition, to each one of these leadership components
described above the student athlete will learn the parallel
Biblical perspective as to why this curriculum is so powerful.
